Cardiac Servcies – Torbay: Update

Update on Cardiac Services at Torbay Hospital

We wanted to share the latest news regarding cardiac care in our area, following concerns about the potential relocation of emergency cardiac procedures (pPCI) from Torbay Hospital to Exeter.

The good news is that the specific proposal to move these emergency services has now been scrapped.

This change comes after significant campaigning from local residents, healthcare professionals, and our MPs, and we’re very grateful to everyone who raised their voices to protect patient safety.

However, it’s important to note that NHS Devon is still working on a wider review of how cardiology services are delivered across the county. This includes looking at the whole pathway of cardiac care — from prevention and diagnosis to emergency and planned treatments. While no immediate changes are proposed for pPCI services at Torbay, we will continue to monitor developments closely to ensure our community’s needs remain protected.

Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign. Your voices have made a real difference. We’ll keep you updated with any new information as it emerges.
